Navigation

There’s a few ways to find your way around Smooth Pebbles – the two main ways are via the Categories and the Shops routes. You can use the Categories menu to look for groups of similar items, or you can use the Shops menu to explore the different shops themselves. Once you are within someone’s Shop you will see that they have Sections to further sub-divide their own items.
Don’t forget that you can wishlist any items you find to come back to them later, or favourite a Shop if you want to come back to that Shop later.
You can also use the breadcrumb (that single line below the heading on top of the page e.g. Home / Smooth Pebbles / Art / Painting ) and click on parts of it to move back along your route if needed.
Lastly, you can always use the Search bar on top of the page to search for things you are looking for.
If you get lost, you can always click the Smooth Pebbles logo top left at any time to go right back to the top of the site too!

 


I forgot my password – what do I do now?

Please click the “Forgot password” link, and we will email you a password reset link. Open up that email and click the link and you will be able to set a new password. You can see how the process works here if you need to.

 


I don’t have a credit card, can I still buy from Smooth Pebbles?

Yes, you can still make purchases on Smooth Pebbles – you can use PayFast’s InstantEFT or Ukash methods when you check out. Read more about these on PayFast’s site here.

 


How can I check up on my orders?

You can view all the orders you have by first navigating to the Shop’s page that you bought from (if you added the Shop as a Favourite then it’s even easier – just click My Favourites and choose the Shop from there) and then clicking the ‘My Account‘ link. You will see a list of all your orders and the status of each. You can also contact the Shop to inquire if needed by clicking the ‘Email Us’ or ‘Contact the Shop Owner’ links.

 


Why do most Shops not charge VAT?

Many of the Shops on Smooth Pebbles do not have yearly turnovers that require them to register as VAT vendors (so please support them more ;-) small businesses work for communities and normal folks). It would therefore not be correct for those Shops to charge their customers VAT or show VAT in their invoices.

 


I think the VAT shown is wrong?

Smooth Pebbles does not charge VAT on any shipping – it would be double-counting the VAT to do so as all Shipping is done by other companies who charge the Shop Owners the VAT. Pricing is also shown inclusive of VAT, which means one should divide the price by 1.14 (based upon a 14% VAT rate) to gain the price excluding VAT.

 


Sometimes my order does not add up! I’m charged a few extra cents?

This seems like an obvious error, but unfortunately it’s not – this happens because of adding the VAT on each item up and then rounding it finally to get the right VAT amount for your order. You will appreciate that the price shown may not show all those small fractions and only shows 2 significant digits, and would be displayed as R100.00 when actually it was R100.004. When two of those R100.004′s get added up it becomes R200.01 and it bugs folks to see the extra cents added now. :-( Sorry, we have to calculate the right VAT and if we rounded up on each item you will actually be charged too little!

 


Is it safe to purchase on Smooth Pebbles?

Yes, once you click “Place Order” in your basket, Smooth Pebbles opens a secure https:// link to our payment gateway (PayFast) who use Extended Validation SSL with 256-bit encryption, the highest level of encryption currently available to process your payment. 3D Secure is in place for all credit card transactions over R1000, and all sensitive info is encrypted within PayFast’s database.
